The five-day festival 'Amar Bhashar Chalachchitra 1428' hosted by Dhaka University Film Society (DUFS) concluded today, on February 26.
An award-giving ceremony took place at 3.30pm in commemoration of Hiralal Sen, the first filmmaker of the subcontinent. This year's nominations were: "Nonajoler Kabbo," "Raat Jaga Phool," "Rehana Maryam Noor," "Chandrabati Kotha" and "Laal Morger Jhuti."
The Hiralal Sen Padak went to Rezwan Shahriar Sumit's "Nonajoler Kabbo," while Liberation War drama "Laal Moroger Jhuti" grabbed the Best Story award.
N Rashed Chowdhury's "Chandrabati Kotha" bagged the Best Cinematography award, and Abdullah Mohammad Saad's "Rehana Maryam Noor" won the Best Editing award.
Renowned filmmaker and freedom fighter Nasir Uddin Yousuff, President of Federation of Film Societies of Bangladesh, Lailun Nahar Shemi, filmmakers Rezwan Shahriar Sumit and Humayra Bilkis, actor Dilruba Hossain Doyel and other notable film personalities were present during the award-giving ceremony.
Over the course of the festival, the cast and crew of "Gondi," "Nonajoler Kabbo," "Alatchakra," "Raat Jaga Phool," "Mujib Amar Pita," and "Laal Moroger Jhuti" visited the festival premises. In addition to enjoying films, film enthusiasts had the opportunity to interact with the filmmakers and crew.
This festival is annually organized as a tribute to the martyrs of the Language Movement. It aspires to honour different languages around the world.
A total of 19 features and one documentary from both Bangladesh and West Bengal have been screened over the course of the festival.
TSC premises were decorated during the festival with life-size posters of iconic Bangla films throughout history, provided by Bangladesh Film Archive.
The festival has received positive response from audiences and has had housefull shows since day one. Due to the pandemic, special safety precautions were duly taken by the organizers.
