Solo exhibition on Bangla calligraphy begins at Alliance Francaise

Alliance Francaise de Dhaka is hosting the opening of the solo exhibition titled Borney Byanjona” by Arham ul Huq Chowdhury. 

It will be held on Friday, 11 February 2022 at 5:30 pm, at La Galerie and Galerie Zoom, Alliance Française de Dhaka, 26 Mirpur Road, Corner of Road 3, Dhanmondi.

This exhibition of Bangla calligraphy commemorates the 70th anniversary of Ekushey February. 

After the inaugural ceremony, the exhibition will be open to all till Tuesday, 22 February 2022.

The earliest example of the development of the human intellectual faculty is the cave paintings and the invention of writing gave the civilizations its pinnacle.  The culmination of writing and painting is in calligraphy or stylized writing. 

Bangla is the mother tongue of a large group of population, in the struggle of its establishment came the 21st February the international mother language day. This 21st February is the 70th Platinum anniversary of the Language movement. For this milestone anniversary with 70 commemorative Bangla calligraphies, Alliance Francaise will organize the 18th solo exhibition by Arham ul Huq Chowdhury titled "Borne Benjjona" - "Layouts in letters". 



A language's treasury is in its age old idioms and proverbs and these long lost forgotten idioms are searched and presented in this exhibition, works of long time research in various ways will be seen in this commemorative show. 

With the country's first ever solo exhibition of Bangla calligraphy in 2000 at the Goethe Institute and first solo of designed and hand painted furniture in 1995 at the Alliance Francaise, Arham Chowdhury began the journey. So far several exhibitions on various mediums such as:  scrap metal sculptures, sculptured fountains, works in natural dye, furniture, bonsai of native plants were organized at various places including Bengal gallery, British Council, British High Commissioner's residence, Drik, Gulshan Society Lake park  to name a few. 

The core of his series of works has been to search the heritage - mythology, nature and the juxtaposition of the human mindset.
