Zayed Khan: I will take legal action against Nipun

Zayed Khan has retained his role as General Secretary in the Film Artistes' Association election held on Friday, January 28, beating Nipun by 13 votes.

The Ilias-Nipun panel challenged the outcome of the election and called for a recount of the votes. Nipun further accused her opponent Zayed Khan of 'buying' voters and colluding with BFDC MD Nuzhat Yeasmin and Election Commissioner Pirzada Harun.

In a press conference held on Monday, January 31, Zayed Khan denied all allegations of voter fraud. "All the people, including Nipun, who have maliciously sought to tarnish my image, will be brought to justice. I will take legal action against all of them. I have already talked to my lawyers," he said.

"I have done everything I could for our local artists. For the last two years, I have tried my best. Yet Nipun and others are bent on portraying me as a goon, as a villain. They are spreaing misinformation. This is unacceptable," said a teary-eyed Zayed Khan.

The actor informed the press that he would be pressing charges within a few days.

There were 428 voters in this year’s election, out of which 365 votes were cast.

The film actor community had an eventful day during the newest edition of the Bangladesh Film Artistes' Association election. The balloting was held on the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) premises in a festive environment from 9am to 5pm on Friday.

Actor Ilias Kanchan has been elected as the president of the Film Artistes' Association while Zayed Khan returned as the general secretary for a third term.

The artistes, who contested from rival panels, will now take charge of the association's duties for the 2022-2024 term.
