Bangladeshi animator’s film premieres at the prestigious Cultural Animation Film Fest

A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Dhaka, Tahmina Yasmine’s animated short film, The Other Half, premiered at the Cultural Animation Film Festival (CAFF) on September 26.

The four-day festival was organized in association with the Honolulu Museum of Art, famously known as the ‘finest small museum’ in the United States.

CAFF is designed to showcase unique animated films based on cultures across the world with a view to shedding a better light on who we are as a people, and inspiring animators both new and seasoned from around the world to share their stories.

This year’s festival was launched online in two editions – ‘CAFF for Kids’ in early August and the full program in September.

Clocking in at four minutes, The Other Half is a clash-of-generations tale, revolving around a young girl’s desires for freedom and the traditional views of her conservative parents.

Tahmina, who is currently residing in Germany for higher studies, said: “This is a dream come true for me and a turning point in my career as an animator. I am working with Team Platform and this is our first production. So all in all, I am very proud.”

The young animator encouraged fellow new filmmakers to follow their dreams without fear or hesitation.
