The latest instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, Dead Men Tell No Tales, is set to come out today at two of Dhaka’s multiplexes, Star Cineplex and Blockbuster Cinemas. The Pirates fans in Dhaka get the chance to watch the Walt Disney’s big budget venture on its worldwide release date.
In the fifth film, Johnny Depp, Kevin McNally, and Geoffrey Rush, reprise their roles as Jack Sparrow, Joshamee Gibbs, and Hector Barbossa, respectively, while it introduces Oscar winner Javier Bardem as Capitán Armando Salazar, an Undead pirate hunter who is in command of a ghost ship.
The American fantasy swashbuckler film also introduces Kaya Scodelario as Carina, a feisty and altruistic young astronomer who is fighting for her rights to study at a university.
The script has been written by Jeff Nathanson, who adapted Catch Me If You Can. Dead Men Tell No Tales is jointly directed by Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg.
In Dead Men Tell No Tales, Jack Sparrow is looking for the mythical Trident of Poseidon, a legendary staff said to hold “all the power of the sea”. And a nasty new villain, Armando Salazar, has risen from his watery tomb in the Devil’s Triangle, is looking for the same mythical doodad.
Barbossa, the old nemesis of Jack, also gets drawn into the fray who now rules the seas.
Henry Turner and Carina, the two other new characters, provide the flick’s fresh faces — and its spark of romance.
The film, made with a budget of whipping $230 million, is part of a huge franchise which made nearly $1.3 billion since 2003.
