Renowned film-maker, director and actor Amjad Hossain has been put on life support in the ICU at Impulse Hospital. He was taken to the hospital on Sunday after he suffered a stroke.
He is in a critical condition at the moment for which the physicians have kept him under observation for 72 hours. They cannot take any further step regarding his treatment since his condition worsened.
His son Shazzad Hossain Dodul told the Dhaka Tribune’s Showtime: “My father’s condition worsened today [yesterday]. He didn’t suffer from a brain hemorrhage, but because of the stroke, the blood circulation in his brain has been interrupted.
“Neurosurgeons are doing their best to treat my father. We can only pray for his quick recovery now,” he added.
Born on August 14, 1942, Amjad Hossain showed interest in arts and literature at an early age.
During the 1950s, he came to Dhaka and got involved with the practice of literature and theatre. He wrote short stories, juvenile stories and novels.
Amjad first acted in the film “Tomar Amar (1961),” and established himself as a director and writer afterwards.
Notable films directed by Amjad Hossain are “Golapi Ekhon Traine (1978),” “Sundori (1979),” “Koshai (1980),” “Jonmo Theke Jolchi (1982),” “Dui Poysar Alta (1982),” “Bhat Dey (1984),” “Golapi Ekhon Dhakay (2006)," and “Golapi Ekhon Bilatey (2010).”
The veteran director has bagged many awards during his tenure in the film industry including Agrani Bank Juvenile Literature Award, Bangla Academy Award and many more.
He received National Film Award several times. In 1992, Amjad Hossain received Ekushey Padak.
