Kangana calls out KJo: ‘Flag-bearer of nepotism’

She was not entirely wrong. But Karan can hardly be blamed because nepotism is not an aberration in Bollywood. Rather, it is the norm. In the latest episode of Koffee With Karan, Kangana Ranaut, a self-made superstar without any big-studio patronage, called Karan Johar the “flag-bearer of nepotism.” Of course, in good humour. Kangana Ranaut was absolutely merciless towards Karan Johar who at one point, was very condescending about the National Award-winning actor. In the recent episode, Kangana Ranaut spoke about Karan Johar referring to her as a “great actress” with a “magnificent absence.” In his book An Unsuitable Boy, Karan Johar referred to Ranaut as “a great actress” who has “made a branding out of her absence...People have a magnificent presence; she has a magnificent absence.” Ranaut hasn’t read the book but her friends did make her aware of the remark. “I don’t get it,” she said. “Is it a jibe or a compliment? Is the absence because I’m missing from his parties or on his gossip circle or skipping filmi parties and award shows? I don’t feel I am absent.” Koffee with Karan is known for its rapid fire round where one of the questions posed to celebrity guests was to rank five leading female actors of the industry. Three-time National Award-winner Kangana Ranaut’s name was never featured on the list.
