Farooki fires back at critics on Facebook

Director Mostofa Sarwar Farooki responded to the mixed reviews his latest film, Doob: A Bed of No Roses, on the second day of its release, through a Facebook post. In his Facebook post on Saturday, Farooki claimed all his films have created a buzz and divided the nation into two. He went on to say that the trend goes back to the release of his first film, Bachelor, in 2003, a time without Facebook. He said things became more intense after the release of Third Person Singular Number in 2009. But he remains hopeful because critics fizzle out after their clamouring for and against a film. He thinks his personal style and workflow is what causes such heated debates. He wrote his style might be different from what people expect. He believes that his films may challenge the audience’s film consuming experience. Since a lot of things are currently being debated for and against the film, he said he will be talking about them soon on television. In the meanwhile, Farooki hopes people will keep watching the film. He has also requested its viewers to read the reviews made by international critics. “The people who used to slam his (Satyajit) films in the name of criticism, Satyajit Ray used to reply thoroughly via letters, using a pseudonym. Then, he went on to post those letters,” said Farooki, comparing his stance with the legendary filmmaker. At this point in his post, Farooki wondered what would have happened if Satyajit Ray were living in current Facebook era. He further went on to talk about how Abbas Kiarostami’s films would have been criticised, if it were measured on the basis of a film like Jummon Koshai or how Taste of Cherry would have been rated in terms of Marvel or DC films. He concluded by saying that he makes his films for his audience who could feel the pain of his characters and can relate with them. Doob: No Bed of Roses was released on October 27 worldwide.
