Oscar run starts in Bangladesh

The 90th Oscar Bangladesh committee has officially opened it’s doors for the submission of local films made in Bangla language. The selected film will be then submitted to compete for a nomination for the Academy Awards in the Foreign Language Film category, informed the committee on September 14. To select the best film from the ones submitted, a committee consisting of nine members, has already been formed with the initiative of Bangladesh Federation of Film Societies. Eminent film producer Habibur Rahman Khan is chairing the committee. According to the committee, any full length film which is made after October 1, 2016, and have been projected for at least a week at a stretch in any national theatre can participate in the selection round given that the film includes English subtitles. The 90th Oscar Bangladesh committee is requesting interested candidates to contact at Hasan Holding, 9th floor, 52/1 New Eskaton, Dhaka - 1217, to collect the film submission form. Interested producers have to submit their film for consideration within September 20. The 90th Academy Awards ceremony, presented by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), will honour the best films of 2017 and will take place on March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. The ceremony was scheduled well after its usual late-February date to avoid conflicting with the 2018 Winter Olympics. During the ceremony, AMPAS will present the Academy Awards in 24 different categories. The ceremony will be televised in the United States by ABC, and produced by Michael De Luca and Jennifer Todd. Comedian Jimmy Kimmel will be seen as the host for a second consecutive year, making Kimmel the first person to host back-to-back ceremonies since Billy Crystal in 1997 and 1998 respectively.
