We were in Sylhet in May when we experienced a 5.8 quake. It was a modern building, built to earthquake resistant specifications, so nothing fell down. Nevertheless it was a pretty scary experience and made us wonder what would happen in Dhaka. Now we know!
Tazmeen Mili
Very true.

No, this is not good news, but most people have known this for ages and still keep constructing unsafe buildings!

Slip of FB! Just finish by saying such a quake is inevitable.

The 1897 Great India Earthquake was caused by the readjustment of the Shillong Plateau. That plateau is still readjusting, but there have been no shocks, yet, originating in that process. It seems highly probable that, sooner or later, another severe adjustment will result in another such catastrophic quake. Hi. How are you?
Donna Rahman
Dhaka is in a prime location for a massive quake, has a massive population, and the buildings are not built to proper standards to withstand such a quake. That's plenty to be concerned about.

It could be any city of the world. Why Dhaka??
Mohammad Masuk Imtiaz
You don’t need an expert to say that!!

Dhaka will be [the] next Lost City of “Pompeii!”
Mohammad Zahinul Islam
[This is] nothing new.
Mehreen Yusuf
So scary! Allah Malik!
Saif Kamal
Are we surprised?
Leea Rahman
Not surprised.

If this is so well-known, and terrifying, why are we still ignoring the warnings?? We are such hypocrites that it's...I have no words. We claim to love our lives, would do anything to keep fattening our pocketbooks, and yet completely ignore all preparations that we might make for a potential earthquake, never mind a fire. What about carrying out a fire and earthquake drill? In each office and school, once a month, just in case. Now there's an idea. Do we really want to survive or have we given up already? Or we just don't give a shit, about anyone, even ourselves.
