Bangladesh has done an exemplary job of forming and maintaining bilateral ties with multiple nations, which has proven to be notably beneficial for our development over the decades. It is especially heartening to witness the strong ties that we have continued to strengthen with Japan for 50 years.
As per a recent discussion between Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, Honda Taro, and State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Md Shahriar Alam, Bangladesh and Japan have expressed their mutual interest to elevate their bilateral relationship in commemoration of the golden jubilee of their friendship.
The vice minister conveyed their desire to extend their support further for the development of Bangladesh, and to upgrade the comprehensive partnership between the two nations.
This is an extremely favourable development, and a welcome one at that. We have gained considerably as a nation with the continued support from Japan, and having a strong ally as such can only help expedite our socio-economic development.
Surely, Bangladesh will benefit greatly from Japan's heightened cooperation in areas such as bilateral trade, foreign investment, and Rohingya repatriation. Furthermore, stronger ties with Japan will result in added mutual benefits in the long run.
Although we have demonstrated an impressive amount of progress in terms of development, it is apparent that we can achieve a lot more, and perhaps even faster, with the help of our international allies. And thus, we must continue to strengthen our existing bilateral relationships, while also pursuing newer ties.
After all, there is no such thing as too many friends, especially for developing countries like ours.
