With the test positivity rate jumping up to 11% and at least one death in almost a month, it appears Covid-19 is making its presence known again as a clear and present threat to Bangladesh.
According to the Directorate General of Health Services, around 873 cases were reported from as many as 8,028 samples tested across the nation. While the mortality rate from Covid-19 has remained at an unwavering 1.49%, we cannot allow further increases in the number of infection.
Bangladesh, unlike even some of the most well-off developed nations, has been able to bypass the more extreme consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic that started more than two years ago by now. However, while the number of deaths was lower in comparison to even our immediate neighbours, the pandemic still managed to leave an impact on the economy.
Given that we are in the middle of a potential global recession at the moment, the prospect of Covid-19 coming back and wreaking absolute havoc on the economy is surely something we all want to avoid.
