The correct dosage

After nearly two years of grappling with a global pandemic, it seems a way out is finally near.

Despite Bangladesh’s position in the world as a fairly young nation with limited resources, it has been nothing short of astounding as to just how effectively we staved off Covid-19 from doing any significant damage. In fact, even the efforts of some of the most developed nations in the world pale in comparison to that of ours.

This would not have been possible without the timely and effective policies enacted by the administration, yet another example of which is the recent drive to inoculate 10 million people a day which began from yesterday.

With enough vaccines finally under our belt, it makes sense to expedite the vaccination process, especially at this crucial juncture of the pandemic. Studies have consistently shown that vaccines against Covid-19 not just work, they are essential in paving the way towards herd immunity against the virus.

More than 80% of all deaths linked to Covid-19 are that of the unvaccinated, according to the findings of our own health professionals. There are no two ways about it: Vaccination is the only way out at this point.

With this recent drive fully underway, it now falls on the part of our citizenry to do the right thing and get vaccinated as soon as possible, and with barriers such as arduous registration processes being eliminated from the process there is absolutely very little excuse anymore short of the recommendation of doctors.

But it’s encouraging that there have been no signs of trepidation or misinformed stubbornness on the part of our citizenry like that of other nations, as a total of 193,767,457 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, including booster shots, had been administered throughout the nation up until last Thursday.

We are nearing the endgame for the Covid-19 pandemic, and while it has undoubtedly taken a toll on our people, our economy, we cannot wait for it to be nothing more than a footnote on the pages of our nation’s history.
