Bangladesh has hit yet another milestone when it comes to our tireless battle against the Covid-19 pandemic, as we have been able to fully vaccinate almost one-third of the population last week.
And while that might not seem like a lot, compared to other least developed and developing countries, the fac that we have gone above and beyond our means is incontrovertible.
The fact that this milestone has been reached in the face of the looming threat of the Omicron variant gives us hope that we are ready to tackle any future spikes in the infection rate and perhaps even any following variants.
Bangladesh suffered a serious blow last year as it only had India to rely on as the sole supplier of vaccines. But the government has since been able to bounce back and has explored a plethora of sources when it came to the acquisition of more doses.
Not only that, but the administration has already been able to offer booster doses to frontline workers and the elderly, something that even the most developed of countries are currently struggling with.
In fact, some of the more stringent measures usually adopted to combat the virus, such as school closures, are currently not even necessary for us. All in all, it is clear that the administration has learned a lot over the past year.
If this pandemic is something that will stick around for several more years, it is only natural for us to adapt and find bespoke solutions to any problems and outbreaks that may arise.
This momentum has to be maintained. While a good portion of our population has already been inoculated, we are still far from the goal. Vaccine drives have to be pursued aggressively.
Which is why we are also urging the public at large, at least those without underlying health conditions, to please get vaccinated as soon as possible.
We are in this together.
