As the lockdown continues while the death toll climbs, there is now a greater need than ever to use our resources as efficiently and as effectively as possible.
In this regard, we are encouraged by the prime minister’s principal secretary’s words, which have highlighted the urgency and coordination necessary in order to protect our public health services so that we are prepared for a rise in Covid-19-related cases and deaths, which have necessitated the current lockdown.
If the lockdown has any chance of successfully bringing down coronavirus cases in the country, it is only through understanding our roles as citizens, making sure that any symptoms of Covid-19 are treated with the utmost seriousness -- through testing and self-isolation.
In addition, we are encouraged by Principal Secretary Dr Ahmad Kaikaus’s emphasis on urging health providers to increase their supply of beds and oxygen to deal with those already affected, and requiring crucial treatment so that they may recover and return to a life of health and prosperity.
At the end of the day, what is of utmost importance is a focus on prioritizing the health of our citizens and understanding the need to work together in this regard.
A nation is only as successful as its people and their ability to understand the needs of their fellow citizens -- and a government that encourages us to consider each other in our journey towards development.
All of us need to work together on this, which is easier said than done. There is, right now, no definite timeline for when the pandemic can be put behind us, but instead of getting disheartened, now is the time to ramp up our efforts on all fronts.
