One of the proudest achievements for Bangladesh has been our peacekeepers, who put their lives at risk every day in service to the global community and to champion the cause of global peace and harmony.
It is truly telling of a nation’s understanding of its role as part of a global community that Bangladesh has, for the longest time, been the largest contributor of troops to UN peacekeeping missions, comprising our police officers, army personnel, and staff officers.
Once more, it is inspiring to see Bangladesh reiterate its commitment to peacebuilding at the high-level Replenishment Conference convened by UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres, and to continue to be a major contributor to the UN’s efforts to ensure peace across the world.
Peacebuilding is crucial to creating a more inclusive society, and Bangladesh’s pledge to contribute to the Peacebuilding Fund is further proof that, when it comes to foreign policy, we wish to build bridges instead of destroying them.
This is despite our status as a lower middle-income nation, but the current government has always understood that, in an era of digitization and globalization, an isolationist strategy would be foolish, to say the least.
Bangladesh continues to be a leader in humanitarianism through its peacebuilding missions and support for the Rohingya community, further ensuring its journey towards progress and development.
