Shusmita Chowdhury Dina, a former English tutor and legendary socialite, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 57, after two months of prolonged illness, including post-Covid-19 complications.
Dina, as she was popularly known, was renowned for her beauty and grace among Dhaka's diplomatic and social circles.
She leaves behind her two sons, husband, father, sister and two brothers.
She graduated at the top of her class in English literature from Dhaka University. She was an alumnus of Holy Cross College.
Shusmita Chowdhury Dina was also a trained Tagore singer and an alumnus of Chayanat.
Her husband, Kamran Hossain Chowdhury, is a former member of parliament. Her father, Nurul Amin Khan, is a former director of the Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation and former managing director of Jamuna Oil Company. Her elder son, Umran Chowdhury, is a lawyer and columnist. Her younger son is Ayman Chowdhury. Her younger brother, Shayan S Khan, is the executive editor of Dhaka Courier. Her sister is Shejuti Ahmed and elder brother is Moin Hassan Khan.
Shusmita Chowdhury Dina leaves behind a host of family members, friends, admirers and well-wishers.
Her kulkhani will be held at her father's residence, House 26 on Road 4 in the Baridhara Diplomatic Zone, at 4 pm on Friday.
