Dr Mohammed Shafi, a retired professor of the Department of Fisheries of Dhaka University, died on Tuesday at a hospital in Dhaka at the age of 85.
"The professor breathed his last around 1am at a private hospital after suffering from old age complications and post Covid-19 effects," Chairman of the Fisheries Department Dr Md Monirul Islam said.
The noted academician, well known for his philanthropic activities, is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter.
The first namaj-e-janaza of the professor was held on the department premises at 10:30am. Later, another janaza was held at Mirpur Martyred Intellectuals Graveyard where he was laid to eternal rest.
Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Md Akhtaruzzaman expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of the retired professor.
He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family.
