Ekushey Padak-winning poet and former member of parliament Quazi Rosy has passed away at the age of 73.
She breathed her last while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka early on Sunday, said Sumi Sikander, the late poet’s daughter.
Rosy had been suffering from various health issues and was hospitalized on January 30. She was taken to the ICU of the isolation unit as she had tested positive for Covid-19.
Quazi Rosy was born on January 1, 1949 in Satkhira. She had a bachelor's and master's in literature from the Bangla department of Dhaka University.
In addition to poetry, Rosy served as a government employee, retiring as an officer at the Press Information Department in 2007.
Later, she became active in politics and was elected as a member of parliament from the women's reserved seat for Satkhira district as an independent candidate in the 2014 general election.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow over the death of Qazi Rosy, reports UNB.
In a condolence message, Sheikh Hasina said the poet’s courageous role in the trial of war criminals will be remembered alongside her poetry. She prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
