A four-day event showcasing Iranian films has opened in the city.
The inauguration ceremony of the Iranian Film Show was held on Saturday afternoon in the National Music and Dance auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
The film festival will be held till November 6 at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy. From November 9-13 the Iranian films to be shown in this festival will also be screened at the divisional Shilpakala Academies of Rajshahi, Chittagong and Khulna.
The event is free and open to the public.
The chief guest of the event was Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Media Affairs Adviser Iqbal Sobhan Chowdhury, who inaugurated the event through an announcement.
Following his announcement an Iranian film “So Far, So Close,” directed by Reza Mirkarimi, was screened as part of the inauguration ceremony.
The welcome remarks of the event were given by the Acting Cultural Counselor of Iran Cultural Centre Dr Seyed Mahdi Hosseini Faegh.
The special guests were the Charge d' Affaires of Iranian Embassy in Dhaka Ebrahim Shafiei Rezvani Nejad and eminent actor and drama director Lucky Enam.
Director, Film and Cinematography Department of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, Badrul Anam Bhuiyan presided over the panel discussion, held as part of the inauguration, in which the discussants conversed about both mainstream and Iranian films.
Iranian films have brought outstanding contribution in the making of films, use of special effects, and improving overall film quality, discussants said at the opening ceremony.
Aside from the most honorable award in world Cinema, Academy Award, Iranian film Industry have also received awards from most major film festivals, they said.
