Chhayanaut hosts Sufia Kamal memorial

Chhayanaut Cultural Center hosted and organized a Sufia Kamal Memorial program on Friday.  There were eighteen performances of songs, dance and recitations. Everything performed at the program were the works of Kazi Nazrul Islam, Rabindranath Tagore and Atul Prasad Sen.

Chhayanaut Vice President Abul Hasnat delivered an opening speech. The solo performers at the event included ATM Jahangir, Iffat Ara Dewan, Mostafizur Rahman Turjo, Jhuma Khandaker, Abdus Sabur Khan Chowdhury, Nayma Islam Naz, Shemonti Monjuri, Sumon Majumdar, Sejuti Borua, Moidul Islam, Mahmuda Akhtar, Latiful Julio andKhairul Anam Shakil. The event concluded with the national anthem. 

Sufia Kamal (1911-1999) was a poet and a political activist. She was the editor of “Shaptahik Begum” and a pioneer in the feminist movement in Bangladesh.
