Chittagong Income Tax Department honours top taxpayers

The Chittagong Income Tax Department arranged the Best Taxpayers Award and Certificate Distribution 2023 at the Bangabandhu Conference Hall of the World Trade Centre on Tuesday.

A total of 42 taxpayers from the City Corporation under the Chittagong Income Tax Department and five other districts were honoured with certificates, crests, and ID cards during the event.

The prestigious function was presided over by Chittagong Tax Zone-1 Tax Commissioner Md Shahadat Hossain Shikder, with Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Prof Shireen Akhter attending as the chief guest.

Special guests at the ceremony included Chittagong Customs Excise and VAT Training Academy Director General Suresh Biswas, Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce Industry President Mahabubul Alam, and Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Omar Hajjaz.

Chittagong Tax Zone-3 Tax Commissioner Ikhtiyar Uddin Mohammad Mamun delivered the opening address.

The Vice-Chancellor stressed expanding the income tax fair, emphasizing that a broader scope would alleviate public apprehensions about income tax. 

She stressed the importance of income tax as a crucial element in a country's developmental progress, encouraging citizens to willingly contribute to the nation's growth.

A total of 525 taxpayers from city corporations and districts nationwide, along with 42 taxpayers from Chittagong City Corporation and its surrounding districts under the Chittagong Income Tax Department, were honoured for the tax year 2022-2023. Along with 12 long-term income taxpayers, the 18 highest taxpayers, six highest female taxpayers, and six young male taxpayers below 40 years of age were also honoured.
