The award ceremony of "Sfuron: Sustainable Energy Idea Contest 2026" concluded Tuesday during the inauguration of the Bangladesh Solar Expo 2026.
The event was graced by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who attended as chief guest and presented awards to the nation’s top sustainable energy innovators.
The idea contest was jointly organized by the Power Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (Sreda), the European Union and German Development Cooperation, through GIZ.
The contest was aimed to promote the National Renewable Energy Development Strategy Paper (RESP) 2026–2030, which sets a 10,450 MW renewable energy target by 2030 and aims to save 15% energy across households, industry and the commercial sector.
Following a rigorous multi-stage evaluation and live pitch presentations before an expert jury board comprising leaders from government, academia, development partners, and the private sector, five pioneering solutions were awarded across three competition categories.
In the Renewable Energy Category for student teams, the first position went to Sanjida Afrin and Tasfia Tahiat from Buet for 'Roddur AI', an automated, satellite-based solar feasibility assessment platform, while the second position was secured by Sheikh Sajidul Islam and Lamia Tabassum Naboni from Islamic University of Technology (IUT) for 'Surjo Ghat', a solar-powered retrofit system for diesel fishing boats and ghat-side charging infrastructure.
In the Energy Efficiency Category for student teams, the First Position was awarded to Zaara Tasnuva Alam and Humayra Tabassum Turasa from University of Dhaka for the 'TPECO Framework', a smart campus energy conservation and automation system, and the second position was earned by Labiba Anika and Khandaker Ruhama Amin from Buet for 'ChhadGrid', an urban rooftop solar and appliance clustering model built around public anchor buildings.
Additionally, in the Professionals Category, the winner award was secured by Md Tipu Sultan from Multifabs Limited for an 'Integrated Boiler Heat Recovery & CO2 Wastewater Neutralization' industrial retrofit system.
