Bangladesh economy grew 3.97% in the current FY25, according to the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS)’s provisional estimate released on Tuesday.
This is close to the projection by the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) 3.8% for the year.
The country’s per capita income also increased by $82 to $2,820 (equivalent to Tk3,39,211) in the same FY25.
This marks a rise from $2,738 (Tk3,04,102) recorded in the previous fiscal.
However, this is the lowest growth of the gross domestic product (GDP) -- the final value of all goods and services produced in an economy in a certain period -- in the past five years.
Compared to FY24, this fiscal year investment has decreased by 1.32 percentage points, domestic savings have decreased by 0.71 percentage points, and national savings have increased by 0.59 percentage points.
Bangladesh recorded 3.45% growth in FY20, when the Covid pandemic began that brought all economic activity across the world to a standstill.
