Kamran Tanvirur Rahman re-elected MCCI president

Kamran Tanvirur Rahman has been re-elected as the President of the Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) for the year 2025. 

The members of the Board of Directors unanimously re-elected him at the first meeting of the new board held on Tuesday which was confirmed at the 120th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of MCCI held on Tuesday.

Rahman, a leading entrepreneur in the jute and tea sectors of Bangladesh, is the chairman and managing director of the Kapna Tea Company Ltd and Pubali Jute Mills Ltd. 

He is the chairman of Bangladesh Tea Association (BTA) for 2023-2025. 

He has also been included as one of the members in the recently formed Labour Reform Commission by the interim Government. 

He was an Independent Director of Advanced Chemical Industries Limited (ACI) and its subsidiary companies. Rahman was the senior vice-president of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) in 2022 and 2023. 

He was also the vice-president of MCCI in 2013. He was the president of Bangladesh Employers’ Federation (BEF) in 2007-2009 and 2017-2021. Rahman was a Member (Employers’ Group) of the Governing Body of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Geneva, Switzerland for the terms, 2009-2012, 2012-2014 and 2014-2017. 

He was also the Regional vice-president of International Organisation of Employers (IOE) for the Asia and Pacific Region for the terms, 2009-2012, 2012-2014 and 2014-2017.

Habibullah N Karim has also been re-elected as the senior vice-president of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) for the year 2025.

Karim is the managing director and CEO of Technohaven Company Ltd. He is also the chairman of Kori Digital Bank PLC, which has obtained letter of intent from Bangladesh Bank for a digital banking license, paving the way for innovative financial services in the country. Once the bank is operational, Mr. Karim's vision and expertise shall be instrumental in shaping the future of digital banking in Bangladesh. 

Karim was also the President of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) in 2008-2009 and 2002-2003. He was the vice-president of Bangladesh Employers’ Federation in 2019-2021. He is also the immediate past Chairman of the International Blockchain Olympiad as well as the co-founder and coordinator of Blockchain Olympiad Bangladesh. Moreover, he is a regular columnist in some of the leading newspapers in the country.

Simeen Rahman has also been re-elected as the vice-president of Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dhaka (MCCI) for the year 2025.

Rahman is the Group CEO of Transcom Limited, one of the largest and most diversified conglomerates in the country. As Group CEO, she presides over all Transcom companies with operational and management control. She is also a board member of all companies under the Transcom Group across the pharmaceutical, beverage, consumer goods, electronics, distribution, and media industries. Transcom Limited is a major stakeholder in Mediaworld Limited (Publishers of the country’s leading English language newspaper - The Daily Star), Reliance Insurance Limited, National Housing Finance PLC, IDLC Finance Limited and Pubali Bank PLC.

Rahman also holds the managing director and CEO title for certain Transcom subsidiaries including Eskayef Pharmaceuticals Ltd (one of the largest pharmaceuticals manufacturers in the country with a presence across 67 countries), Transcom Beverages Ltd (exclusive franchise of PepsiCo Beverages), Transcom Consumer Products Ltd (first ever PepsiCo Foods Franchisee in the world), Transcom Distribution Co Ltd (Bangladesh’s largest distribution company), Mediastar Ltd (publishers of Prothom Alo - the largest mass-circulated and most respected Bangla newspaper of the country). Rahman is also a member of the Executive Board of International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) - Bangladesh.
