Since the SUV market has been growing over the past ten years it has now evolved into the most popular selling segment globally, all sports car manufacturers have at least one SUV in their range.
Amidst mixed feelings among car enthusiasts about Ferrari joining the bandwagon, many have welcomed the move.
Only last week, Ferrari finally unveiled the Purosangue after months of anticipation, leaked photos, and speculations.
The Purosangue is officially a four-door coupe SUV and is Ferrari's first SUV.
The Purosangue is an example of Italian elegance as Ferrari put their best designers and engineers behind it.
As we all know Ferrari is known for its powerful, lyrical, and stylish sports cars, and has at last introduced its first SUV to compete with the most luxurious SUVs on the market.
With heavy hitters like the Lamborghini Urus and Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, competition in this market is tough.
Engine
Ferrari's loud and potent engines have made them stand out in the market since its inception.
The engine of the Purosangue is designed to deliver ferocious performance and sound legendary at the same time, according to its public statement.
An F140IA 6.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 engine, mated to an eight-speed DCT transmission, powers all four wheels of this beast.
At 7,750 RPM, it produces 715 horsepower, and at 2,100 RPM, it produces 528 lb-ft of torque. Ferrari claims that the Purosangue has a peak speed of more than 300 km per hour and can reach 100 km per hour in a quick 3.3 seconds.
The 8-speed DCT gearbox has been improved with a new dry sump and a smaller yet stronger clutch assembly, which lowers the center of gravity by decreasing the height of the car and helps to give 35% greater performance.
The redesigned gear ratios are shorter to enable quicker gear changes and enhance fuel efficiency.
The Purosangue has a brand new chassis
For the Purosangue, Ferrari has built a brand-new chassis to provide it with a strong and lightweight foundation.
A number of castings and closed-section pieces help to boost the strength of the high-strength aluminium alloy used to make the lower portion of the chassis. For added stiffness, the chassis also makes use of AHSS and carbon fibre.
Ferrari has also made sure that the Purosangue's shell provides great protection during crashes in addition to these other measures.
The external shell's pillars are all constructed of AHSS, which provides unbreakable strength at the time of impact.
All of these provide the chassis with 25% higher beam strength and 30% better torsional strength.
The most aerodynamically advanced SUV?
Ferrari engineers reportedly concentrated primarily on minimizing the frontal surface area and reducing the drag coefficient.
The Purosangue's exterior is expertly created with both aerodynamics and aesthetics in mind. Two air intakes located above and below the DRL give the fascia a distinctive look. According to Ferrari, the lower intake supplies air for cooling the brakes while the top one flows air into the motor.
The Purosangue's exterior features several intriguing details, but its windshield wiper is one of them. The Purosangue has a state-of-the-art spoiler with a low-surface suspended design that enables great airflow toward the rear windscreen to keep it clear at high speeds. In order to optimize the car's drag coefficient, the rear additionally has a cutting-edge diffuser that reduces total drag and offers a clear passage for air to depart the vehicle.
Interior
Four people can fit inside, and the front and back sport bucket seats are power-adjustable. The front chairs are heated and cooled, and feature memory, lumbar support, bolster, and thigh extensions. Only the cooling feature is absent from the back seats. There is a massage feature on the front seats as well, with five different styles of massage available. A unique form of Alcantara created from repurposed fishing nets has been used by Ferrari to embellish the interior.
Regarding features, the inside has a full-length electrochromic glass roof as standard, which allows sunlight to penetrate the cabin at various intensities. The interior's entertainment system has a Burmester 3D High-End Surround audio system in addition to Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, voice-activated navigation, a wireless charger, and many more features.
The Purosangue is the most practical and spacious Ferrari yet. This Ferrari's 16.7 cubic feet of storage capacity in the back is big enough to hold four suitcases and other items.
After folding the back seats, the cabin has additional space.
Even though people are asking why Ferrari is joining the overcrowded SUV segment, I personally think it was a great idea. There is a huge market for vehicles like this and why shouldn’t the best automobile brand compete there, especially when others are doing so well in the segment.
