The price of the dollar has increased to Tk99 in the country’s kerb market on Sunday, up from Tk98 the previous day, mainly due to a rise in import bills.
Moreover, the dollar exchange rate for Intermarket transactions was Tk97.5. However, the greenback exchange rate for interbank transactions remained the same at Tk87.5.
The value of the dollar touched Tk100 mark last Monday.
It then dropped to Tk97.5 on Wednesday, which later came down to Tk97 at some money exchanges.
The rise in import bills increased the demand for the dollars. Moreover, the fall in remittance inflow along with the increased rate of import bills made the situation even more critical.
