Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) demanded the withdrawal of the decision of gas rationing in the industrial units for four hours a day for fifteen days.
First Vice-President of BGMEA Syed Nazrul Islam said on Tuesday that the export-oriented industry will incur a huge loss due to the decision of gas supply suspension.
He also said that the apparel industry currently has huge export orders including the orders suspended or cancelled due to the pandemic and the new ones.
With Eid-ul-Fitr coming soon, these orders have to be shipped in a specific timeframe and factories are spending a busy time producing the items before Eid.
Syed Nazrul Islam said that the gas supply suspension at this moment will disrupt production in various industrial sectors, hampering the export.
He further said that the factories may face problems in paying the workers before and after the Eid due to the disruption.
