Maritime ports asked to lower signal amid heavy rain

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in several parts of the country under the influence of an active monsoon, while advising the seaports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla and Payra to lower their cautionary signals.

Meteorologist AKM Nazmul Hoque said fishing boats and trawlers operating in the northern Bay of Bengal have been advised to navigate with caution until Saturday evening.

In a heavy rainfall warning, the BMD said Rangpur, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions may experience heavy to very heavy rain at places during the 24 hours from noon on Saturday.

According to the forecast, rainfall between 44mm and 88mm is considered heavy, while more than 188mm may be recorded in some areas, qualifying as very heavy rainfall.

In the advisory signed by Meteorologist AKM Nazmul Hoque, the weather office urged residents and relevant authorities to take necessary precautions in view of the forecast.
