The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall in the Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barishal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions in the next 24 hours, commencing 9am on Wednesday.
"Light to moderately heavy rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty wind and lightning flashes is likely to occur at most places over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions with heavy to very heavy falls over Rangpur, Mymensingh, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong, and Sylhet divisions,” the Met office said.
The country’s highest 314 mm rainfall was recorded in Bandarban in 24 hours till 6am Wednesday.
Day temperature may fall slightly, and night temperature may remain nearly unchanged over the country.
The monsoon land depression over Chhattisgarh and adjoining Uttar and Madhya Pradesh moved northwestwards, weakened into a well-marked low, and now lies over Madhya Pradesh and adjoining Uttar Pradesh.
It is likely to move west-northwest further and weaken gradually. Under its influence, a steep pressure gradient persists over North Bay and the adjoining area.
The axis of the monsoon trough runs through Rajasthan, the center of the well-marked low, Bihar, West Bengal, and Assam across the southern part of Bangladesh. The monsoon is active over Bangladesh and strong over the North Bay.
