Rain brings relief to Dhaka after sweltering heat

Rain fell in parts of Dhaka on Saturday afternoon after a day of intense heat and humid weather, bringing some relief to residents who had been enduring high temperatures for several days.

Showers were reported from Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, Green Road, Farmgate, Rajabazar, Kathalbagan, Panthapath, Banglamotor, Shahbagh and Karwan Bazar, among other areas of the capital. In some places, the rain was accompanied by gusty winds and thunder.

The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (Bangladesh Meteorological Department) said a trough of low pressure extends from West Bengal to the northern Bay of Bengal. It added that the southwest monsoon may advance to the Cox’s Bazar coast within the next 48 hours.

According to the forecast, rain or thundershowers with temporary gusty or squally winds are likely at many places in Khulna, Barishal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions, and at some places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Dhaka and Mymensingh divisions over the next 24 hours.

Moderate to heavy rainfall may also occur in parts of the country, with both day and night temperatures likely to fall slightly during this period.

In a special weather bulletin for inland river ports, the BMD said rain or thundershowers, accompanied by gusty or squally winds of 45–60 kmph, may occur over Rangpur, Rajshahi, Pabna, Bogura, Tangail, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Faridpur, Kushtia, Jessore, Khulna, Barisal, Patuakhali, Noakhali, Comilla, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar and Sylhet regions.

River ports in these areas have been advised to hoist cautionary signal-1.
