9 including 8 Rohingyas held while crossing border in Moulvibazar

Nine people, including eight Rohingya refugees, were detained from Kachurgul Nalapunji area of Goalbari union bordering Juri upazila of Moulvibazar while crossing border to India early Wednesday.

Sources said the nine people were brought to the union parishad with the cooperation of Goalbari union parishad Chairman Abdul Qayyum and local residents. Later, the UP chairman informed BGB and Juri police.

The UP chairman said: “We have check post at every intersection in Goalbari union. This Rohingya group was detained by the officials at our Nalapunji check post during midnight. I went there along with my UP members and brought them to the union office.”

“Later, BGB and police were informed and they came there. In the interrogation, it was revealed that eight of them were Rohingyas and one Bangladeshi,” he added.

Juri police station Officer-in-charge (OC) Mosharraf Hossain said that the nine detained were trying to infiltrate into India.
