The government has taken initiatives to shift 80,000 more Rohingyas to Bhashan Char very soon from various refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's Principal Secretary Ahmad Kaikaus disclosed the development on Sunday during a meeting with ambassadors, high commissioners and heads of delegations of various international organizations at the Prime Minister's Office in Dhaka.
Kaikaus also extended the government’s plea to the international community seeking more efforts from them to ensure all inhabitable arrangements and fundamental rights of the refugees, PM’s Deputy Press Secretary KM Shakhawat Moon told BSS.
A total of 18,000 Rohingyas were earlier shifted to Bhasan Char from different camps in Cox’s Bazar in multiple phases and the process to move more within the shortest possible time is on.
At the meeting, Kaikaus said that the environment developed by the government at Bhashan Char to relocate the Rohingyas is being praised by international communities.
He also said that the government was doing everything possible to ensure all basic needs of the Rohingyas, including better liveable places, reports UNB.
PMO Secretary Tofazzal Hossain Miah and the secretaries concerned was present during the meeting that was attended by the ambassadors and high commissioners of various countries including the US, the UK, Japan, Australia, France, Canada and the Netherlands.
Apart from them, the heads of delegations of international organizations like the European Union and UNHCR also attended.
