National Electricity Week starts November 17

The National Electricity and Energy Week will be held from November 17-19 and will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at the International Convention City Bashundhara.

The electricity production capacity of the country has crossed 14,700 MW and 76% of the people of the country are getting the benefit of electricity,” Mohammad Hossain, director general of Power Cell, under the Power, Energy and Mineral Resources told the Dhaka Tribune yesterday.

He said that by mid-November, another 330 MW of electricity will be added on the national grid. This will total the electricity production in the country at 15,030 MW.

Indian power, coal, renewable energy and mineral resources state minister Piyush Goyal will attend the program, Power Cell Director General said.

The three-day long program will include a fair, camp and seminar. The display of energy and electricity efficient machineries will get priority at the fair.

Along with different government entities, a number of private organisations working in the power sector will take part at the fair too.

At the inauguration ceremony, different awards will be distributed for contributing to the power sector.
