PGCB forms 5-member committee to investigate power outage

Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) has formed a five-member committee to investigate the power outage that affected eastern Dhaka and parts of Chittagong on Tuesday.

The committee, headed by PGCB Chief Engineer (Additional Charge) Syed Ebadullah Haider Ali, has been asked to submit its report within five working days.

In a press release issued on Tuesday evening, PGCB said the committee would identify the exact cause of the outage and recommend measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The outage occurred at 12:43pm on Tuesday due to a fault in the Meghnaghat–Haripur national grid line, disrupting electricity supply to the capital and several other areas.

Key installations in Dhaka, including the Secretariat, the High Court and the Supreme Court, were affected. Several areas in eastern Dhaka and parts of Chittagong also experienced disruptions.

PGCB said restoration of the national grid was completed by 2:30pm, with all grid lines and substations back in operation. Power plants were being brought back online gradually.

The company said intermittent load-shedding would ease as electricity generation increased.

PGCB apologised for the temporary inconvenience caused to the public by the unexpected outage.
