CNG stations across Dhaka are gradually returning to normal operations after days of acute gas shortages, easing long queues and prolonged waits for motorists.
Most stations reported normal gas pressure from Saturday morning, according to staff at several CNG stations across the capital.
Tarique, a sales attendant at Akij CNG Station in Tejgaon, said gas supply had remained normal since morning, allowing customers to refuel without difficulty.
“There are no long queues, and gas pressure is also better than before,” he said.
At Zaman CNG Station in Merul Badda, station operator Sharif said the station resumed operations on Saturday after remaining closed for several days due to the gas shortage.
“Gas pressure is good today. Both CNG-run auto-rickshaws and private cars are refuelling normally. There has been no supply problem so far,” he said.
Private car driver Yunus Mia said he faced no difficulty getting gas on Saturday.
“Gas was available normally. There was no major queue, and the pressure was good,” he said.
CNG driver Nasir Hossain said drivers had faced severe difficulties over the past few days, often waiting for hours to get only Tk60–70 worth of gas.
“Today, the situation is much better. I was able to get more than Tk200 worth of gas,” he said, urging the government to ensure a stable supply.
The gas crisis was triggered by delays in unloading liquefied Natural gas (LNG) due to maintenance work at an LNG terminal in Maheshkhali. The resulting decline in gas supply to the national grid caused shortages in Dhaka and several other areas.
The shortage affected residential consumers, CNG drivers and industrial users alike. Long queues formed at CNG stations across the capital, while some stations sold gas in limited quantities and others were forced to shut down temporarily.
The situation has gradually improved, with the government earlier saying the crisis would ease significantly within a few days.
With gas supply and pressure returning to normal at most CNG stations in Dhaka on Saturday, the hardship faced by motorists has eased considerably, at least for now.
