Power generation at the Rampal power plant in Bagerhat was suspended at 6:30am on Sunday following a technical glitch.
Bangladesh-India Friendship Power Company Limited (BIFPCL) Managing Director Sayeed Akram Ullah confirmed the shutdown of the plant.
He said the company has taken measures to resume production at the plant as soon as possible.
A senior official of the plant said the plant has two units, each with 660MW capacity, and both have been inoperative following the fault.
It may take two or three days to repair the fault, he said.
Meanwhile, attempts to contact BIFPCL Public Relations Officer Anwarul Azim proved unsuccessful.
The Rampal power plant experienced outages several times for different reasons after its first unit started production last year.
Recently, commercial operations were formally launched by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi.
Earlier on April 15, production at the plant was halted due to mechanical failure.
The plant has been shut down six times in seven and a half months since it was commissioned on December 17.
The power plant was first shut down on January 14, followed by April 15, April 23, June 30, July 16 and July 30.
