Power generation at the hydropower station in Kaptai has been falling due to scarcity of water.
ATM Abduzzaher, the managing engineer of the power station, said only 40MW of power is being produced by the plant due to lack of water as the water has receded to 15 feet below the rule carve.
It has the capacity to produce 240MW of power from five generators but only one generator is active now, he said.
If the authorities are able to operate all five generators at a time, it will be possible to produce 242MW of power, but due to the water crisis only generator No 2 is active, he added.
There is no hope to increase the water level as there is no possibility of rainfall.
Meanwhile, 5MW of power is being produced from solar panels adjacent to the main dam of the lake and in total only 45MW of power is being generated from the power station which is being added to the national grid.
