The 230KV power transmission line from Ishwardi to Ghorashal failed for about 15 minutes due to technical problems.
Power Grid Company of Bangladesh Ltd Managing Director Masum Al Beroni said the transmission line had tripped between 11am to 12pm on Tuesday, leading to power outages in the country's northern, southern and western regions.
"Some transmission lines in northern, southern and western regions were damaged because of yesterday's storm. The Ishwardi-Ghorashal line got overloaded and tripped when the damaged lines were being repaired," he said.
Several power plants in the regions also shut down when the power lines failed, he said.
"The power supply in most of these areas has been restored. The remaining areas will get back power by 5pm," he added.
