Larsen and Toubro (L&T), an India based multinational company, has started commissioning gas turbines for two gas-based power projects in Chittagong and Kushtia.
The first gas turbine has been set up at Sikalbaha in Chittagong and will produce 150 Megawatt (MW) for Bangladesh Power Development Board (PDB). The second gas turbine has been set up at Bheramara in Kushtia which will produce 280MW for North West Power Generation Co Ltd (NWPGCL), the company said in a statement.
The statement also said that the successful commissioning of these two gas turbines at their full capacity will produce approximately 450MW of clean and green power for Bangladesh.
In these two projects, L&T has supplied state-of-the-art gas turbines and steam turbines.
According to the statement, the power plants are designed to operate on natural gas as well as heavy fuel oil and the two power plants will generate more than 635MW on full load.
L&T Power is also executing an EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) sub-contract for another 400MW gas-based power plant at Bibiyana in Sylhet. It will be ready for commissioning by 2019.
