Tenure of two quick rental power plants to be extended

The government has decided to extend the tenure of two quick rental power plants for five additional years. The power plants in question are the Power Pact Motiyara in Keraniganj and Precision Energy Limited in Ashuganj. The Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement approved separate proposals from the respective private-sector power companies on Wednesday. The meeting was chaired by Finance Minister AMA Muhith. At the end of the meeting, Additional Secretary of the Cabinet Division Mustafizur Rahman said the tenure of the gas based 55MW quick rental power plant in Ashuganj has been extended for another 5 years, with a new tariff fixed at Tk2.9058 per kilowatt hour as opposed to the previous Tk2.9128. He added that the furnace oil based 100MW power plant in Keraniganj had also received a 5 year extension to their tenure, with the new tariff at Tk11.52 per kilowatt hour as opposed to Tk11.63. Furthermore, the additional secretary said the committee had also approved a proposal for a 115MW furnace oil based power power plant in Jamalpur, to be set up by United Enterprise. The tariff for the Jamalpur power plant has been fixed at Tk 8.7312, he added Meanwhile, regarding the shortage of rice stocks following torrential rain and nationwide flooding this year, the additional secretary said a total 300,000 tons of rice were to be imported on an emergency basis by the government through international tenders.
