BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is hopeful that the BNP-backed candidates will achieve landslide victory in the Dhaka and Chittagong City Corporations elections.
The BNP chief made the statement in a press conference at her Gulshan office on Sunday afternoon.
She said: “I have full faith on the people. Our candidates will win the city polls.”
The three-time prime minister also urged people to vote for Tabith Awal in Dhaka North, Mirza Abaas in Dhaka South and M Manjur Alam in Chittagong City Corporation.
Khaleda said the BNP has taken the city elections as a test to judge the neutrality of the government and the election commission.
“If the government changes the result through criminal activities, then it will be proved that a free and fair election is not possible under the ruling government,"she added.
Alleging that the BCL men made the attacks on her motorcade, Khaleda said: “There is no doubt that the attacks were launched to kill me. But I was saved by the grace Allah.”
She also alleged that police played the role of silent viewer during the attacks on her.
The motorcade of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia came under attack thrice during her campaigns for the party-backed candidates.
The BNP chief’s motorcade was obstructed in Uttara on April 19, and attacked on April 20 and 21 allegedly by supporters of Awami League.
However, ruling party leaders claim that angry people might have attacked from their grievances as more than 100 people were killed during the BNP-led alliance’s anti-government movement since January.
