Manna denied bail

A Dhaka court yesterday denied bail to Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna in two cases – one for sedition and the other for trying to instigate revolt in the army.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ataul Haque rejected Manna’s bail in the sedition case while Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Kamrul Hossain Molla turned down Manna’s bail plea in the case filed for trying to incite the army.

Defense counsel Tuhin Hawladar filed the petitions against an order of chief metropolitan magistrate court that rejected Manna’s bail prayer on March 8.

On February 24 Manna was arrested after the leak of his controversial telephone conversation with Sadeuqe Hossain Khoka, where Manna was heard talking to Khoka about strengthening the anti-government movement, among other issues.

After his arrest, he was placed on a 10-day remand in a case filed with Gulshan police station on charges of trying to instigate revolt in the army. On March 5, police filed another case against Manna and Khoka on sedition charges.
