The police have arrested a councillor aspirant from the returning officer’s office of Dhaka North City Corporation, temporarily set up at Agargaon of the capital.
The Jamaat-e-Islami leader, Saidur Rahman, a councillor hopeful of DNCC No 28 ward, picked up by the law enforcers on Thursday while the selection process was underway.
Detail about his party position could not be known immediately.
Sub-Inspector of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station Sabbir Ahmad said: “The Jamaat leader was arrested as he was wanted in four cases, including a murder case.”
However, the Jamaat leader said he did not know if he was wanted in any case.
“I will never come to the office of returning officer, if I have any knowledge about the charges against me.”
