Sayeed Khokon submits nomination form for DSCC

Sayeed Khokon, son of first elected mayor of Dhaka city Mohoammad Hanif, has submitted his nomination paper to contest in the upcoming Dhaka South City Corporation elections.

The ruling party leader submitted the form at the Returning Officer's office around 12:30pm Sunday.

Awami League leaders Abdur Razzak, Fazle Nur Taposh, MA Aziz and Mostafa Jalal Mohiuddin accompanied Khokon.

After submitting nomination paper, Khokon said he is cent percent sure about his victory in the election.

Asked whom he is considering his opponent as another aspirant Haji Selim is yet to submit the form, Khokon said: "I have learned through media reports that BNP is joining the poll. If the party joins, then its candidate will be my opponent."

More than 20 leaders and activists entered the Returning Officer's office along with Khokon while submitting the form, reports our correspondent from the spot.

According to electoral code of conduct, a candidate cannot take more than five people along with him during the submission of nomination.

When asked about the matter, Khokon told reporters: "Only five persons accompanied me in the returning officer's office. Others were councillor aspirants. "

In a media briefing, DSCC returning officer Mihir Sarwar Morshed said no candidate was allowed to take more than five persons along with him while submitting nomination paper.

When asked about Sayeed Khokon, he said: "If we get proof through media reports that Khokon took more than five persons along with him, we will take effective measure against him."

Elections to the divided Dhaka city and Chittagong City Corporations are scheduled to be held on 28 April.

The last day for submitting nomination forms is March 29, and the last date of withdrawing nomination papers is April 9.
