Shajahan: Participation in city polls is the way out from political coma for BNP

Saying that the BNP was in political coma and the upcoming city corporation polls could rejuvenate the party, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan urged Khaleda Zia to consider taking part in the elections.

“Participating in the city corporation elections is only the way for her to come out of the confined situation and end the political deadlock,” the minister said hoping that the BNP would take a positive decision in this regard.

Shajahan Khan made these remarks while talking to journalists at the graduation ceremony of the 14th batch (Chittagong) and the 3rd batch (Madaripur) of Chittagong’s National Maritime Institute (NMI) yesterday morning.

He further said it was not possible to carry out political movement staying out of the electoral process.

“BNP’s movement has no public support. Khaleda Zia has already missed the democracy train many times,” he added.

NMI’s Principal Captain Faisal Azim, who presided over the ceremony, said the new 153 graduates had the opportunity to work in ship building industries as well as shipping industries.

Shipping Ministry’s Additional Secretary Rafiqul Islam, Chittagong Port Chairman Rear Admiral Nizam Ahmed and Department of Shipping Director General Commodore M Zakiur Rahman Bhuiyan were present in the ceremony among others.
