Indictment hearing of Fakhrul, 24 others on April 19

A Dhaka court yesterday adjourned indictment hearing of BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and another 24 members of the party until April 19.

Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Anwar Sadat passed the order in response to a petition filed by defence counsel Syed Jaynul Abedin Mejbah.

The BNP men are on trial for obstructing law enforcement officials in the course of their duty.  According to the case statement, 30 to 40 BNP men prevented the police from discharging their duties in front of Padma General Hospital on Sonargaon road in Kalabagan on December 12, 2012.

They also threw brick chips at police and pedestrians, leaving some injured at Fakhrul’s instigation of.

Sub-Inspector of Kalabagan police station Masud Karim later filed the lawsuit.

Sub-Inspector Md Asaduzzaman, investigating officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet before court against the 25 men on October 20 last year.
