The 14-party leaders of Chittagong unit have picked up ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury to fight in the race for the post of mayor in the Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) polls.
“The leaders of the ruling Awami League-led grand alliance took the decision to nominate Mohiuddin for the CCC mayoral polls,” JSD president of Chittagong unit Indonandan Dutta, who attended the meeting, told the Dhaka Tribune.
The decision was taken in a 14-party meeting in the port city of Chittagong on Sunday.
The meeting also decided to place the decision to Awami League President, also Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, for her approval, he added.
Mohiuddin Chowdhury was the three-time mayor of Chittagong, the second-largest city in Bangladesh.
He is the president of the ruling Awami League of Chittagong city unit.
Mohiuddin defeated BNP-backed candidate M Manjur Alam in the last mayoral election held in 2010.
