DB querying Manna about ex-army officers

On the fourth day of his 10-day remand, Nagorik Oikya Jote Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna was interrogated yesterday about the retired army officials with whom he had been in contact.

Officials of the Detective Branch of police placed before him the names and photos of some high-ranked ex-army personnel, government officials, noted civil society members and political leaders of the BNP, Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir.

Manna is on remand in a case filed with Gulshan police for his alleged involvement in inciting the army to take over power.

A DB senior official told the Dhaka Tribune: “When Manna nods at some point that he knows someone, we ask him about details of the relationship.”

The detectives are querying him about their whereabouts as well.

“However, Manna has been evading most of the questions,” a DB official said.

Mahfuzul Islam, DB additional deputy commissioner said: “We are now trying to glean information from him through conversations, not interrogation.”
