Industries Minister and Cabinet Committee on Law and Order President Amir Hossain Amu has claimed the law and order situation in Bangladesh is now normal, adding that the government is also satisfied with the present atmosphere.
He said: “The law and order situation in the country is now normal, as law enforcers managed to stop the further deterioration of the situation.”
“Although criminal activities are still being conducted in some places, the government is satisfied with the present law and order situation,” Amu added.
Amu made these comments while talking to journalists after a committee meeting at the secretariat yesterday.
Referring to the recent arson attacks, he said: “Although the blockade and hartal enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance had little impact on the lives of the public, a vested quarter, who is patronising militancy, wants to continue the chaos.”
“Those who do not believe in the nation’s sovereignty are involved in such subversive activities.”
When asked why the SSC exams are not being held timely, if the situation is normal, he said: “We have taken this decision considering the students’ safety. The militants may launch attacks on them.”
Commerce Minister Tofayel Ahmed, Health Minister Muhammad Nasim, Expatriates and Overseas Employment Minister Mosarraf Hossain, Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu, Law Minister Anisul Haque, Water Resource Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, State Minister for Home Affairs Assaduzzaman Khan Kamal, State Minister for Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque Chonno, senior officials of several ministries, and law enforcement agency chiefs attended the meeting.
Amu said: “The hartal and blockade have not been observed everywhere in the nation. Some places have seen damage by militants. This damage is against our nation’s interest. But overall, our country’s situation is healthy and good.”
“Law enforcement agencies have a role to strictly control bombings, violence, and sabotage,” he added.
So far, more than 70 people have died and scores have been injured in different parts of the nation due to the violence carried out during the ongoing blockade enforced by the BNP-led alliance.
Of the violence, a large number of arson attacks are being conducted on highways. Hundreds of vehicles, including those belonging to law enforcers, were attacked and set alight.
Most of the 41st day of the blockade and hartal, enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance, saw little impact on the lives of the public, aside from a few stray incidents of violence across the country.
Law enforcers continued a crackdown on alleged perpetrators in different parts of the country.
